Home PC Maintenance - Software Solutions

If your home computer is running slow, freezing, or locking up there is a very good chance that a simple scan and clean up of internet cookies and temporary files will help speed things up some, coupling that with an anti-spyware and anti-virus scan will also help ensure some level of cleanliness and security. However, in good home PC maintenance there are many other tools available to help keep your computer clean and running efficient by removing files that clog your computer, for instance broken links in the registry, zero length files that are usually left after a crash, downloaded program files that have been archived and never used again and a host of others that can be safely cleaned from your computer, but you must know how to find these files to have effective home PC maintenance.
In home computer basics there is a difference between cleaning your computer of the files that are left over after visiting web sites and removing files from your computer's drive that serve no purpose and only slow up the works. There are many free programs available that are intended to clean your computer from the internet temporary files, history logs, and cookies and some of these free programs are very good and valuable. Occasionally I will use two different cleaning programs to ensure all files not needed are removed and there is no spyware or viruses present, this has always helped my computer to speed back up to like new condition. Because I take good home PC maintenance seriously I have purchased a very good and reasonably priced maintenance and security program that I run on my computer. It is equipped with many features from a firewall to spyware removal. It also removes the broken registry links, zero length files, and many other files that are not needed and aids in slowing the computers processing time. Another key point to home PC maintenance is removing programs from your computer that you are pretty confident you will not want to use any longer.
These programs can be anything from demo or trial programs downloaded from the internet to programs or games you've installed but no longer need or want to use. There is an easy way to do this through the Windows operating system, but again many of the better maintenance and security programs also have this feature. There are many fascists to home computer basics and home pc maintenance, and keeping your computer running efficiently, safely, and cleanly. For you parents and guardians who are worried about protecting your child online there are several good programs and tools available to help ensure your child is not exposed to the images and words that you want to protect them from while surfing the net. One good home computer basics tip for a frequent and easy maintenance step is to use the built in tool that is available in most internet browsers: the "delete browsing history....:" button under tools in Internet Explorer, and in Firefox it is under tools and is the "clear private data..." button. Look for something similar in your particular internet browser. Using this feature once a week will help clear those internet items that take up space on your hard drive. This will also help your chances of clearing out most spyware programs since the majority of them reside in the internet temporary files folder.
Then running your maintenance and security programs' utilities once every month or two, depending on your computer usage, will typically maintain the average internet user's PC very well. If of course you are having more serious issues it would be best to investigate your problems on line, if you are able to access the internet, to better understand the direction you may need to head in seeking help, but consulting a professional or friend is always an option and sometimes a necessity depending on your individual capabilities. However you choose to implement a home PC maintenance program stick to it and don't neglect it so that you can get the life out of your computer you would expect.
